Why Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw received a notice from Bombay HC – Explained

By polsonnewss@gmail.com

The Bombay High Court has issued a notice to Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and the city police following an appeal by social media influencer Sapna Gill. Gill has requested the court to cancel a first information report (FIR) filed against her for allegedly attacking Shaw and demanding money. The appeal relates to an incident in February when Gill and her friends got into a fight with Shaw and his friends outside a hotel in Mumbai. The fight was sparked by Gill and her friends taking selfies.

Gill has requested the FIR against her to be quashed and for the police to obtain and preserve CCTV footage from the hotel. The court has set a hearing for June. Ali Kashif Khan, Gill’s lawyer, claimed that the police were conspiring with Prithvi Shaw to fabricate a case against Gill and has requested the authorities to not submit a chargesheet against her.

On Thursday, a notice was issued by a division bench of Justices S B Shukre and M M Sathaye to the police and Prithvi Shaw in response to Gill’s plea to quash the FIR against her. The matter has been scheduled for hearing in June. Gill’s lawyer, Ali Kashif Khan, accused the police of colluding with the Mumbai cricketer and filing a false case against his client, a social media influencer. Khan also requested the court to order the police to obtain and secure the CCTV footage from the hotel in suburban Andheri to reveal the events leading up to the altercation.
